This wasn’t a rhetorical question, sitting around a table we actually asked it. And being the lifelong nerd I am, I went and did the maths.
Did you know that for over 80% of UK drivers, their first car is used for just 1 hour per day, driving less than 10 miles each way?
When we think about what we actually use our cars for the reasons become clear. The work commute, the school run, after school clubs, shopping, the occasional day out.
And the rest of the time (96% of it), it just sits there, depreciating while we pay for it every hour and every day, regardless of how much we use it.
And for second car owners it’s even worse. The amount of time they’re used is measured in hours per month.
Do our cars give us independence or are they just a financial albatross around our necks, costing a fortune?
Finance payments, insurance, taxes, maintenance, and the cost of fuel? An average of £7000-9000 per year for cars bought from new, and £3500 per year for a second-hand car.
To add insult to polluted injury, the vast majority of UK vehicles are internal combustion engine cars, damaging our planet and our health with every minute the engine is running.
So, sitting around that table we asked ourselves the next logical question: what can we do about it? And Zimbl was born.
The concept is simple: we created a platform which allows a driver to rent a brand-new EV for just the hours or days they actually need it. We charge no subscription fees, no membership fees and no add-on fees. We only charge for the hours the car is hired and the kWh of battery that’s used.
The hire cost includes delivery and collection from an address of your choice, insurance, emergency recovery and the first 5kWh of battery used.
Why join CoMoUK?
By joining CoMoUK as an associate member we join a community of like-minded businesses intent on providing a network of shared transport options and promoting a future of sustainable travel in the UK.
We truly believe we can help drivers save money as well as the environment. By sharing a single EV amongst multiple drivers on a daily basis we reduce private car ownership, parking and pollution.
The future possibilities for shared transport are endless: if done right the consumer can have all the convenience of private car ownership at a fraction of the cost and environmental impact.
