Travelling without a car in and around Inverness

You can travel into central Inverness from many surrounding areas by bus or train. Use the Traveline Scotland journey planner to plan your route.

Bus travel is free with a National Entitlement Card (e.g. under 22s or over 60s) or from £4.90 for an Inverness zone 1 unlimited DayRider ticket (see Stagecoach website for fares info).

You can walk or wheel to most places in central Inverness in around 10 minutes. Walking is good for your health and your wallet, as well as good for the planet.

Most places in central Inverness can be reached by bike in less than 5 minutes. It also only takes around 10-15 minutes to cycle to nearby places like Raigmore Hospital, UHI Inverness and Inverness leisure centre. You can plan your cycling route using the CycleStreets website or app.

The Go-Hi app allows you to plan and pay for all your journeys around Inverness and the Highlands using just one app. This includes bus, train, on demand buses and car clubs. Find out more and download the app.

Want to walk or cycle more often?

Local charity Velocity Café and Bicycle Workshop regularly run free cycle confidence lessons for everyone, from absolute beginners to people looking to improve their road confidence. Find out at more on Velocity’s website.

To build up your walking confidence, check out Partnerships for Wellbeing, which runs free and friendly group walks in and around Inverness several days per week.

We hope to run a free guided health walk or bike ride from this pop-up mobility hub while it is in Church Street – please look out for publicity or check the event listings above.

Many journeys can be done by walking, cycling or public transport. But for occasional journeys that need to be done by car, why not consider renting one of Enterprise Car Club’s six vehicles in Inverness city centre? Car clubs offer the benefits of access to cars without the costs and hassle of owning one. You can hire a car by the hour, starting from £7.73 per hour, including all fuel costs and standard insurance. £2 per month membership fee – for more information visit Enterprise Car Club’s website.
