The UK shared e-scooter trails will provide an opportunity to learn more about the kinds of trips they are used for and their contribution to an inclusive and sustainable transport system.
During this development phase we need to look to other countries to understand their potential impacts. CoMoUK has compiled a summary of a number of studies from across Europe and North America which examine modal shift impacts, trip patterns and safety considerations.
Shared e-scooter schemes have been a trigger to reducing car use
- 34% of users reporting their trip had replaced a car/taxi trip and this increased to 48% for visitors. (Portland City, 2018)
- 21% of riders reported that their last e-scooter trips would have previously been done by a car or taxi trip. (Lisbon 2019)
